Samson's First Birthday

Wednesday, 30 July 2008 15:29 by Robbi

Samson is such a sweetheart of a boy and we love having him here with us. As many of you know, he has not been doing too well lately. We know our time with him is limited and we have no idea how long he will be here. So we decided to pick a day to be his birthday so we could have a special celebration for him. Of course we'll never know his real birthday. As we were told that he had originally come from a breeder, we feel pretty certain he never had his true birthday celebrated. And the girl that had him after that did not indicate that she had ever given him a birthday. So, we had a clean slate and an opportunity to give him something he has never had - his own special day!

We chose a Sunday so we could have the whole day with him and not have to leave him for work all day. We had a lie in and extra cuddle time. After a special breakfast and a short nap we dove into the presents!

We weren't sure how he was going to react to the presents. Of course I had to open them for him, but he was right there ready to grab whatever came out of the wrapping paper!

I don't believe he's ever had toys of his own and we thought it was high time. We had to tell Phebes off a time or two for trying to nick them - we wanted them to be his and his alone. He was in heaven! He spent the rest of the afternoon lying in the donut bed chewing on them until he was so tired he had to nap. After the nap he had his special dinner (mmmm, extra sardines!) and then a cuddle on the sofa. Before bed he was able to have a bit of his treat roll that was another one of his presents.

All in all I would say he had a fantastic day. We took lots of photos and made sure we gave him lots of extra cuddles and kisses.

He is our sweet little precious boy and we are so honored to have him here with us. I am so sorry that he has missed out on this until now. But he doesn't seem to mind. In fact, he's even let Phebes play with his toys - what a sweetheart!
